Who we are

Ocean shipping is our business

What We Do

Fednav is a leading oceangoing bulk shipping company.

We bring a rich heritage and a reputation for mastering complex international routes since 1944. Our expertise in navigating the Canadian Arctic, the Great Lakes, and the St. Lawrence Seaway is unparalleled. Our commitment to charting new paths and ensuring client satisfaction remains unwavering. Fednav boasts a growing fleet of 120 max-sized drybulk carriers, delivering a seamless shipping experience for our customers. Anchored in our commitment to our people and our dedication to superior global service, we stand as industry leaders.

What sets us apart

  1. 30 Million Tonnes Of Experience

Ocean shipping is our business. Fednav transports over 30 million tonnes of dry bulk, including agricultural products, sugar, fertilizers, and industrial minerals as well as steel and other general cargo on a fleet of 120 owned and chartered vessels. The FIL fleet is comprised of Handysize, Supramax, and Ultramax bulk carriers. Renowned for Arctic trading, we boast the world’s largest fleet of ice-class bulk vessels.

  2. Transatlantic’s #1 Choice For Breakbulk Shipments To North America’s Heartland

Since 1959, Federal Atlantic Lakes Line (FALLine) has operated a continuous cargo liner service from North Europe to St. Lawrence and Great Lakes ports, offering up to 60 sailings annually.

Focusing on flexible scheduling to meet specific customer needs, FALLine transports a mix of steel products as well as project and breakbulk general cargoes.

  3. Delivering Solutions In The Arctic

Fednav has been the leading shipping company for Canadian Arctic projects since the 1950s. The Arctic Services team delivers a variety of solutions for this challenging region. We operate three of the world's most powerful ice-breaking bulk carriers, the MV Umiak I, MV Nunavik and MV Arvik I. This fleet of icebreakers navigates unescorted year-round through ice-covered waters.

  4. Helping You Navigate Through Ice

Fednav Ice Services supports safe navigation in ice, assists operations in the Arctic and Baltic regions, and produces sea ice assessments and marine accessibility studies for shipping operations in ice-covered waters. Additionally, Fednav developed IceNav™, a navigation system used by vessels operating in frozen waters worldwide. This system allows mariners to access satellite imagery and up-to-date ice and weather information.

  5. Effectively Managing All The Moving Parts

Fednav’s Fleet Management Team oversees technical management, design development, shipyard negotiations, crew supervision, ship maintenance, and fleet-operating costs of Fednav’s owned fleet.
