Functions:
Reporting to the Vice-President, Operations, the Operations Manager will manage the day-to-day activities involved in providing corporate operational support to FMT's terminals.

Key responsibilities:

Operations (40%)

  • Maintain and analyse FMT statistical information/reports using Oracle, Cargo Management System (CMS), Stevedoring Logs,
  • and Monthly Tonnage Reports
  • Maintain the information contained in the FMT public folders
  • Maintain FMT's Marine Terminal Operator (MTO) schedule and
  • the related external website
  • information/content; convey all changes to the Webmaster
  • and verify accuracy of all changes
  • Assist the VP, Operations with the analysis and resolution
  • of various operational issues
  • In the absence of the VP, Operations, field correspondence and operational items and communicate urgent items to appropriate individuals

Safety, Security & Environment (20%)

  • Participate in the Corporate Safety Committee, review safety issues company-wide, and recommend solutions to improve current processes/procedures and structures

Information Systems/Technology (15%)

  • Work with the VP, Operations and CMS Super-User to identify and recommend enhancements to the CMS in order to maximize its use

Finance & Administration (10%)

  • In collaboration with Accounting and Payroll, monitor the accuracy of the data being processed at the terminals
  • Assist the VP, Operations and the Accounting Department to troubleshoot Oracle Project Accounting Data and Reports
  • Respond to questions about monthly P/L statements and assist with the completion of monthly and quarterly operational/financial comments. Provide monthly financial comments in the absence of the VP, Operations

Marketing Support (10%)

  • In collaboration with VP, Operations and VP, Commercial Development:
  • Collect information necessary for building rate quotes and conducting business analysis
  • Communicate with customers regarding operational capabilities for handling new business or expanding current business
  • In collaboration with VP, Operations and the Marketing Department, maintain/update information on the FMT Web Page

Special Projects (5%)

  • Participate in various special projects as needed

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Marine Transportation, or equivalent degree is preferred; relevant experience will be considered
  • Minimum of 5 years of industry experience
  • Ability to build relationships with employees from all levels of the Company, and to interact effectively with union labour
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced skills in MS Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Ability to learn proprietary front-office and-back office and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Solutions
  • Ability to travel to FMT terminals in the US and Canada

Other Requirements:

  • The preferred candidate will be one who currently holds a senior engineer position at sea or a superintendant ashore
  • A Chief Engineer’s Certificate of Competency is preferred
  • International experience
  • Proficient in English
  • Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Office)
