Fednav first in Canada to make its environmental policy accessible online
Montreal, December 3, 2008 — The Fednav Group, an international shipowner and ship chartering company based in Montreal, has unveiled its environmental policies and objectives on its website (http://www.fednav.com/). Fednav is the first Canadian shipping company to make its detailed environmental policy available to the public.
According to Paul M. Pathy, Executive Vice-President, Fednav made the decision to communicate its environmental policy to the public because “Fednav wants to formally demonstrate its commitment to the environment, in all areas where we conduct activities and do business.” Fednav participates in various environmental programmes, the main one being Green Marine, of which Fednav is one of the founding members. Fednav’s environmental policy goes beyond the numerous regulations governing this area and is unique in the extent of the issues it covers: Ballast Water and Aquatic Invasive Species, Cargo Residues, Oily Wastes, Accidental Oil Spills/Leakages, Air Emissions, Energy Efficiency, and Waste Management.
Fednav management believes that it is crucial for all stakeholders (employees, partners, clients, suppliers, governments, and the general population) to be informed of its environmental policy. “Only with transparency and accountability will we succeed in bettering our marine environment,” affirms Paul Pathy. “Fednav is proud to be the first Canadian enterprise to unveil its commitment toward the environment in this way.”
Fednav is a privately owned shipping company and is the largest international dry-bulk shipping group in Canada. Together with its subsidiaries and associated companies, it engages in ship owning, marine transportation of bulk and breakbulk cargoes worldwide, including the Canadian Arctic, ice-navigation services, stevedoring at terminal operations and logistics services including warehousing and ground transportation. The company employs 250 office staff worldwide—130 in its Montreal headquarters—and maintains commercial offices overseas in London, Hamburg, Antwerp, Brisbane, Rio de Janeiro, and Tokyo.
